What are the information needs of top management? Which information system is suitable for top management and why ?

Answer & Explanation:

Managers at different organizational levels have diverse information requirements. To efficiently perform their work, managers must diagnose their information needs. Generally, the Strategic Management information needs comprise: Information about market trends (macro analysis). Information about Government Policies. Information about Competitors' policies and tactics. Information about major exceptions in implementing company policy at tactical/operational levels. Analysis about major happenings/events which may have a long-term bearing on the strategic decisions of the company. Strategic management or top management of a company comprises the owners/managing director. Information systems such as Executive Information System (EIS) and Decision Support System (DSS) are suitable for top management. This is because the information needs of top management are generally unstructured and not easily defined. Furthermore, they are responsible for taking strategic decisions for the company that have long-term bearing. They make strategic plans and perform macro analysis, and thus their decisions are based on macro analysis.
