Answer & Explanation:

Special Economic Zones (SEZ) are growth engines that can boost manufacturing, augment exports and generate employment. The SEZs require special fiscal and regulatory regime in order to impart a hassle free operational regime encompassing the state of the art infrastructure and support services. Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is a specifically delineated duty free enclave and shall be deemed to be foreign territory for the purposes of trade operations and duties and tariffs. Goods and services going into the SEZ area from Domestic Tariff Area (DTA) are treated as exports and goods coming from the SEZ area into DTA treated as if these are being imported. SEZ units may be set up for manufacture of goods and rendering of services. The Government of India had announced a Special Economic Zone scheme in the year 2000 with a view to provide an internationally competitive environment for exports. To instil confidence in investors and signal the Government's commitment to a stable SEZ policy regime and with a view to impart stability to the SEZ regime thereby generating greater economic activity and employment through the establishment of SEZs, the Special Economic Zones Act, 2005, was passed by Parliament in 2005.
