The actual URL of the Income tax is as under: https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in, while the URL as mentioned in the questions is http:/jncometaxindiafiling.jov.com. So, if the e-mail is carefully read the following would be observed: Actual URL Fake URL https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in http:/jncometaxindiafiling.jov.com. The spelling of the Income tax start with "i" The spelling of the Income tax start with "j" The government website always mentioned "gov.in" and not "jov.in" The word "e" is missing before the word 'filing' It is called as Phishing. Phishing is just one of the many frauds on the Internet, Phishing trying to fool people into parting with their money. Phishing refers to the receipt of unsolicited e-mails by customers of financial institutions, requesting them to enter their username, password or other personal information to access their account for some reason. Customers are directed to a fraudulent replica of the original institution's website when they click on the links on the e-mail to enter their information, and so they remain unaware that the fraud has occurred. The hacker then has access to the customer's online bank account and to the funds contained in that account. The incident shall be informed to the police to register a case under the relevant provisions of IT Act, 2000.
