What is cyber fraud ? What is the difference between Phishing and Vishing ?
Answer & Explanation:
Cyber fraud is a crime committed either on or with a computer and the internet to steal personal identity, gaining unauthorised access to computer systems, sell contraband online or stalk victims online or disrupt operations with malevolent programs. In the present technological era, cyber fraud is most common type of fraud. Individuals and organisations need to be more vigilant and protect their information from fraudsters. Both Phishing and Vishing are forms of cybercrime to obtain sensitive personal information of individuals such as passwords, banking details, OTPs, or personal data. The major differences between Phishing and Vishing as given as under: Phishing obtains sensitive information through emails, websites, text messages, or online communications whereas Vishing is doing the same act using voice calls or voice messages. Through phishing the victim is directed to click a malicious link, open an attachment, or enter information on a fake website, whereas in case of vishing the caller impersonates a trusted entity such as bank officials, tax officers, police officer, etc. and persuades the victim to disclose confidential information over the phone. The major objective of phishing is to steal login credentials, financial information, or install malware. However, vishing is done with the objective of obtaining passwords, OTPs, PINs, banking details, or persuade victims to transfer funds. Phishing is detected by identifying suspicious links, poor grammar, unfamiliar sender addresses, fake websites. Vishing is suspected through urgent requests, caller pressure tactics, spoofed phone numbers, requests for confidential information.
